How can I make my DVD-R or DVD + R (two), playing on my DVD player?

I made a video in Windows Media Player and I put in my DVD + R and-click, burn. He did, and I drove and when I put in my DVD player says "unknown" disc. I did the same with the DVD-R, and said "unknown disk" as well. How do I solve this problem? Do I have to format it? Thank you. (:

Before spending money as suggested here, do this: Put your burned DVD into your DVD drive in your computer. Discover DVD. See what are the names of files. or if filename.mpg filename.wmv, then you must change your recording software. Use Nero or NTI instead of Media Player. If you see a folder called VIDEO_TS in which the files as AVSEQ01.VOB etc. are present, (d, then no problem with the DVD (no matter if or + R,-R, but is more widely accepted) and is a problem with the drive.
